Improve Programme Predicability – Hotel Extension Programme.

Founded in 1742, Whitbread has grown from a regional brewer into one of the UK’s biggest hospitality firms. The group manages hotels, restaurants and leisure clubs. Brands include Premier Travel Inn, Brewers Fayre, Beefeater, Costa.

Premier Inn UK hotel sales growth is driven by the strategy to win market share through investment in new hotels and extensions. The success of this growth is through the use of a highly complex supply chain involving direct and indirect contractors.

The Aspen Global team worked with the Premier Inn project team to assess a typical extension programme and highlight opportunities for improvement. We then defined an ideal target programme based on the Aspen Lean construction principles of optimum sequence, waste elimination, balanced work, flow and pull.

Our expert consultants facilitated collaborative sessions with client team members and key contractors using a ‘one team’ approach and established a best target programme that formed the basis of future extensions reducing programme durations by typically 27% ( a reduction of an average of 13 weeks ) releasing increased revenues of £4.6M per annum.

The Aspen team then coached & supporting lead personnel in the sub contractors in the Advanced Lean Project System (ALPS) to implement robust short term planning and control systems to aid implementation of the improved target programmes in the field and help drive improved programme predictability of 95%.
